NYU Visiting Scholar - AHRCentre's Justine Nolan

Justine Nolan, Deputy Director of the AHRCentre is spending 2014 as a Visiting Scholar at the NYU Stern Center for Business and Human Rights (http://www.stern.nyu.edu/experience-stern/about/departments-centers-initiatives/centers-of-research/business-human-rights/leadership). During her time at NYU, Justine is working with Professor Michael Posner, Sarah Labowitz and Dr. Dorothee Baumann-Pauly on strategies to hold companies accountable for human rights violations. In particular her research is addressing the legitimacy and effectiveness of multi-stakeholder initiatives (MSIs) (such as the Fair Labor Association or the Global Network Initiative) to curb corporate rights violations. In May 2014 Justine co-convened a MSI workshop which brought together representatives from leading US and European based MSIs representing fields as diverse as the garment sector, forestry, information and technology and private security providers. A follow up meeting will be held in Geneva in December 2014. Justine is also collaborating with NYU colleagues on a new business and human rights book to be published by Routledge (Taylor and Francis UK) in 2015.
