International workshop on Women’s Social Security Rights

The workshop ‘Interpreting and Advancing Women’s Rights to Social Security and Social Protection’ was held at the International Institute for the Sociology of Law on 6-7 June 2013 in Onati, Spain. It was convened by Beth Goldblatt (University of New South Wales) and Lucie Lamarche (University of Ottawa), with participants from Chile, Spain, Canada, UK, China, USA, Australia and Ireland. The papers explored the challenges of austerity cuts to welfare for women in developed countries. They also considered the growing provision of social protection in developing countries and the extent to which these take account of women’s rights and interests. The interesting deliberations will inform the reworking of papers by authors for inclusion in a future book.
