The AHRC will bring together speakers to address the right to the environment, the right to freedom of movement and the right to health in the context of the global warming crisis.
February 2007Human Rights Education Conference The University of Melbourne Human Rights Forum is facilitating an interactive conference on Human Rights Education (HRE) on February 16, 2007. The keynote speaker is Rev Tim Costello (World Vision). Workshops will be presented by Amnesty International Australia, Asia Education Project, Global Education Project, Department of Education & Training (Vic), Equal Opportunity Commission Victoria, World Vision, Victorian HRE Committee, school teachers, and academic staff from The University of Melbourne. The conference is open to teachers, educators, and those interested in the role of Human Rights Education in both formal and informal education. The conference aims to address all levels of education, from pre-school through primary, secondary, tertiary and beyond. The Forum is issuing a general call for interactive workshop proposals and seminar presentations in any of the following areas:
- Human Rights Education (HRE) - HRE in the classroom: practice and theory - HRE definitions, concepts, instruments and scope - HRE in the community - Putting HRE into practice across the disciplines - HRE resources and services

Proposals are due by 27 October 2006. August 2006Housing is a Human Right Mr Kothari, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Adequate Housing is on an official visit to Australia. Mr Kothari's mandate includes issues such as access to water and electricity, sanitation, land rights, forced evictions and displacement as well as the general human right to adequate housing. Please join us for a forum to discuss international and domestic developments on the attainment of the right to adequate housing. The forum is open to all interested individuals and groups. SYDNEY PEN LECTURE CANCELLED Due to unavoidable circumstances, the 2005 PEN lecture has been cancelled.
